![]() Ringo Starr was available as a replacement, but he did not convince Martin at first either. Martin first arranged for the Beatles to fire their drummer Pete Best. The man who was to decide their fate was producer George Martin, who would later have such a huge influence on their music. So now they got their second chance, and at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, where they would later record all their classics. Six months earlier they had already auditioned for another label (Decca), but had been rejected on the grounds that guitar bands were no longer fashionable. Now the group, which had made it to local prominence in Liverpool and had matured into a brilliant live band in months of guest appearances on the Hamburg Reeperband, was allowed to audition for the Parlophone record company on 6 June 1962. Before that, the young band had only appeared on one record as an accompanying combo for Tony Sheridan. 60 years ago, the Beatles recorded their first single:"Love Me Do". ![]()
